Since 1984, Thoreson has traveled nationally and internationally; shot for the U.S. National Park Service; bicycled 10,000 miles solo around the U.S. and Canada; sailed 36,000 miles around the planet, including both polar regions; and crossed the Atlantic three times by sail. David was selected in 2005 as one of the top three explorers from the state of Iowa. He just completed the Northwest Passage by
sail during the summer of 2007.
His work has been featured at the Smithsonian Institute, numerous publications and books and award-winning Public Television documentaries.
Studio/Gallery: David and his wife, Teresa, opened Blue Water Studios, near West Lake Okoboji, Iowa, in 1996. The studio offers original, and stock photography, notecards, posters and fine art prints.
